When it comes to looking her most fabulous … what is every top actress, every supermodel, every famous celebrity’s most valued “secret weapon”? Without doubt … it’s her makeup artist.  But until very recently makeup artists were virtually the exclusive preserve of the film set, photo shoot and catwalk.

The terrific news now from Estée Lauder is that our International makeup artist, Alan Pan will be demonstrating his expertise and teaching customer’s tips and techniques on how to achieve their perfect look.  And to acquire that makeup artist magic all she need do is visit the Estée Lauder counter at an exclusive list of department stores in the UK and Ireland.

Alan’s makeup career started in 1987 when he was running his own beauty salon in Malaysia. One day, his makeup artist didn’t turn up for a client and Alan had to step in at the last minute. It was then he found his vocation in life and has never looked back since!

Alan’s experience is broad, understanding every aspect of makeup.  He will readily explain why colours work and how to choose different products, colours and textures to achieve the effect that will flatter most.  A true expert, when he is not creating beautiful looks for customers, he can be found representing Estée Lauder on Ireland AM, Backstage at the Brit Awards and Breast Cancer Care fashion shows.  He has also compared a Vogue event for the launch of Tom Ford Azuree.  He is a regular backstage at London Fashion Week including Frost French and Sass & Bide fashion shows, and has provided makeup for A-list celebrities including Sadie Frost, Lily Cole, Anita Roddick and Ruby Wax.

 

Questions and Answers with Alan Pan

What is your inspiration?

Colour.  I have I have always loved colour so I was either going to be a painter or makeup artist!

What is your favourite thing about being an international Makeup Artist for Estee Lauder?

When a woman comes in to get her makeup done and wants my advice.  I can immediately see how makeup could make them look and so love transforming them.

What is your top makeup Artist tip?

Colour is meant to be fun – so experiment!

What is your makeup style?

My style changes according to season – especially after a holiday.  On holiday I always get inspired about how to use and apply makeup.

What is your most important too?

It has to be Estee Lauder’s Foundation Brush.   It gives you flawless skin and provides an excellent base to work on.
